The readings for this course are a mixture of materials from multiple sources. The primary reference book for this course is a new book that Chase Geigle and I are writing, titled "Statistical Language Models for Text Data Retrieval and Analysis." We will make draft chapters available here as we produce them.
Another useful reference book is the following book especially for those who have not previously taken any course on information retrieval; you should be able to download the PDF file from any machine in the UIUC domain. ChengXiang Zhai, Sean Massung, Text Data Management: A Practical Introduction to Information Retrieval and Text Mining, ACM and Morgan & Claypool Publishers, July 2016. (PDF file available from ACM Digital Library: http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2915031.)
We will also gradually post other readings here on this page as needed.
